This position is responsible for underwriting all of Anchor’s consumer, private banking and in house mortgage loan applications. This position ensures tight regulatory compliance, ensures consistent underwriting across the Bank and helps to mitigate consumer loan risk as much as possible. This position receives and underwrites consumer, private and in house mortgage loan applications, approves  credit requests, initiates and reviews  credit documentation and works with personal and private bankers as well as mortgage loan officers to close customer deals.  


As a representative of Anchor Bank, this position, along with all others, is expected to adhere to high ethical standards and practices and to conduct him- or herself in accordance with Anchor Bank’s policies and procedures. In addition, he or she is responsible for managing the risks inherent in Anchor’s business over which control can be exercised.  All employees are responsible for reporting any improper activities or risks they become aware of.


*This position can be located in Apple Valley or St. Louis Park and although full-time is preferred, we will consider part-time.



Credit Underwriting

  • Receives applications for credit from personal bankers in bank offices.
  • Reviews credit applications and information from bankers for completeness and compliance with consumer regulatory requirements.
  • Underwrites request for credit following Anchor underwriting guidelines.
  • Pulls credit reports, flood certifications, title work, appraisal (if applicable) and other necessary documentation to underwrite loan.
  • For real estate secured loans, works with Title Company to clear any title issues to insure Bank has clean title to property
  • Prepares spreadsheets with all pertinent underwriting information and assigns appropriate risk rating.
  • Communicates results of credit underwriting to banker. If necessary, provides alternative solutions for the customer, which will be communicated to the customer by the banker.
  • Understands and adheres to bank compliance regulations and standard operating procedures pertaining to credit and lending functions.
  • Identifies and recommends ways to improve procedures to safeguard the bank, particularly in the areas of bank compliance regulations, standard operating procedures and Anchor Bank Credit policy.


Customer Service

  • Provides guidance to personal bankers on structure, potential alternative solutions and methods to get the credit approved for customer when appropriate.
  • Ensures that a high level of customer service is being delivered in a manner that exceeds customer expectations (internal and external customers).
  • Promptly underwrites credits in order to quickly provide feedback to the bankers on underwriting results.


Loan Administration

  • Follows all applicable consumer compliance regulations as it relates to consumer credit.
  • Provides customer with all appropriate disclosures as dictated by banking regulation.
  • If applicable, prepares and documents loan denials.
  • Works to obtain appropriate approvals on credit.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • College degree in finance, accounting or business related field preferred.
  • At least two years consumer credit underwriting experience required.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with Excel and Jack Henry software applications.
  • Ability to review and analyze financial information, collect and identify meaningful information, and summarize and present information to others and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret and understand Anchor Credit Policy and apply to credit underwriting.
  • General knowledge of the Bank’s services and a good understanding of consumer lending and regulations required.
  • Ability to calculate amounts such as discounts, interest, commission and percentages.
  • Thorough understanding of general ledger and accounting principles.
  • Ability to accurately calculate financial ratios, common size financial statements, and perform trend analysis.
